Alfa Romeo had high hopes for the US Grand Prix, but the team failed to score any points. Drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou are determined to finish in the top ten in the upcoming round in Mexico City.
Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “There is no doubt that we expected more from last weekend. Our race pace was promising and the points seemed achievable, but in the end it didn’t go the way we wanted.
This week we return to the track and continue to improve the car thanks to the updates brought to the stages in Japan and Austin.
As usual, the race in Austin will be difficult due to the high altitude and the nature of the track, which is better to avoid mistakes. We know that the potential of our car allows us to count on reaching the final of qualifying. Our goal for the weekend is to fight for points to secure a position in the championship.
Valtteri Bottas: “I am looking forward to returning to Mexico City this week for one of the biggest milestones on the calendar. The enthusiasm of the fans is just incredible – they are big fans of Formula 1. In the past I have had three been on the podium at this track once, which has always been an incredible experience.
Speaking of the Austin race, I’m very disappointed that my race ended in gravel, although I had excellent opportunities to earn points. In the next phase I will in any case get new opportunities that must be exploited to the full. We have to do our job and finish in the top ten.”
Guanyu Zhou: “I’ve always wanted to race in Mexico City, so I can’t wait to get to the track, which I have to study well. The atmosphere and passion of the local fans is incredible and I am happy to be able to live this experience.
I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t score points in Austin because we had a good pace that weekend. In Mexico City, it is important to get used to the track quickly from the start of the weekend to get optimal form and maintain momentum in the race.
In Texas we proved that our cars can make it to the qualifying final, so if we do well we will reach the target and earn points.”
