Alpine protest hearing to be held on Thursday

A few hours after the finish of the race in Austin, the stewards of the US Grand Prix discussed Haas protests against Sergio Pérez’s car, with the front wing endplate torn off, and a protest against Fernando Alonso’s car – he was driving with a damaged mirror, which later came loose.

The stewards quashed the protest over Pérez’s car, but approved the protest over Alonso’s car and added 30 seconds to the driver’s time, dropping him from seventh to fifteenth place on the scoresheet. Alpine disagreed with this decision – the team protested Fernando’s fine.

The FIA has received necessary paperwork related to Alpine’s protest, but further proceedings are continuing in Mexico City. On Thursday, October 27 at 6 p.m. local time (it is already 2 a.m. in Moscow on Friday), a hearing will begin in which the stewards will decide whether Alpine’s protest is justified. If the protest is found to be justified, a separate hearing on the merits of the protest will be held, the date and time of which will be announced at a later date.

Fernando Alonso has already commented on the FIA decision on social media: “Today is one of those rare occasions in sport where I feel we are all on the same side and sharing an opinion on the rules and regulations. That’s why Thursday is an important day for the sport we love so much. This decision will determine whether we are moving in the right direction in the future.”
