Mercedes boss Toto Wolff summarized the results of the Austin race, spoke about the team’s duties at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix and confirmed that Nick de Vries will work out first practice instead of George Russell.
Toto Wolff: “The race day in Austin caused a storm of emotions. We didn’t have the pace to win, but it’s still great to be on the front row of the battle. The team brought car updates to Texas and they made it possible to take a step forward, to close the gap with the leaders. Lewis had a brilliant race and finished second, and George scored a lot of points despite the damage to the car.
We have to maintain the momentum. We are optimistic about the next phase, but our W13 is behaving unpredictably from track to track, so we’ll see. It’s always great to be back in Mexico with fantastic fans. They know how to put on a spectacular show, which is why we are all looking forward to coming to Mexico City.
This weekend Nick de Vries will replace George during the first training of the Young Pilot Development Program. We are excited about his return to the W13 cockpit and look forward to seeing him perform.”
