Fittipaldi: I have no doubt that I am ready

Pietro Fittipaldi takes part in the first free practice of the Mexican City Grand Prix, replacing Kevin Magnussen. In an interview with Haas’ press service, the Brazilian rider told what he expects from the coming experience.

Question In Mexico City you will be back behind the wheel of Formula 1 for the first time since the February test. What does this opportunity mean to you?
Pietro Fittipaldic: This is a great opportunity, because there is a big difference between flying during the tests and during training during the race weekend. I want to do a good job for the team. This is my first time driving Formula 1 in Mexico City, which is quite exciting. I want to complete the entire scheduled program and conduct the session effectively.

Q: What are your goals if you participate in the training?
Pietro Fittipaldic: Thursday the team and I discuss the work plan and goals. Tasks can be different – preparing for qualifying or for the race with a full tank. Let’s see what the team’s priorities are, but I’ll try to do my job the best I can.

My personal goal is to once again demonstrate my abilities to the team. Every time I get the chance to drive in Formula 1, I treat it like a job interview. When you’re behind the wheel, you have to give your best every time.

Q: Do you have track experience in Mexico City?
Pietro Fittipaldic: I only competed at this track once in the V8 3.5 World Series in 2017. I have two poles and two wins, so I have a good track record. I hope he stays this good after training with the Haas.

I am always ready to ride. This season I participated in prototype sports and endurance races, which require extraordinary physical and mental effort. I’ve done a few races and found the rhythm – I think it’s important. I trained a lot this year, with a special focus on the neck.

The first practice in Mexico City only lasts an hour, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. I have no doubt that I am ready.
