Less than a week before the start of the Spanish Grand Prix, organizers say the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya stands are expected to gather around 100,000 fans on race day. That hasn’t happened in a long time, since 2013, when Fernando Alonso celebrated the victory in Barcelona.
The public’s interest is explained by the fact that Ferrari has a fast car this season and Spanish Scuderia driver Carlos Sainz has every chance to compete for a high result.
Before the home race, Carlos said: “It will be a very busy week, but also a lot of fun. The Spanish Grand Prix is a unique race and I always enjoy participating in it. This year I’m going to have even more fun there, because for the first time I get the chance to fight for a podium place and for the win.
A full house is expected in the stands – this indicates that Formula 1 is on the right track, and of the support we always get in Spain.
If I manage to win it will be a completely unique situation because this will be my first win, and even on a home track, and to make this possible I work hard every day. The fans want it, but I need it above all else.
I’ve always had my best races in my home country and always scored points when the car allowed it. This year the car allows me to fight for podium places, so I will aim to win.”
