The race in Austin proved difficult for Fernando Alonso, but in Mexico City the Spaniard is determined to earn his money back…
Q: Tell us what happened in Austin…
Fernando Alonso: I think this is one of my best races of the season, if not the best. I fought hard all the way through, the race ended with a great fight with Lando Norris, which was more important given our battle for fourth place with McLaren.
The race started well, I could use the safety car, then there was an incident with Stroll, which we discussed with the stewards after the race.
I was lucky that the car retained steerability after the accident. I was surprised when, after replacing the front wing and tires, everything turned out to be fine. I stayed in the fight even though it wasn’t easy getting to the finish on one set of hard tires.
Q: What is your goal this weekend ahead of the Mexico City race?
Fernando Alonso: It doesn’t take long to fly from Austin to Mexico City, the adrenaline after the last race hasn’t gone away. We are ready to fight and we are confident we can earn points if the weekend goes off without a hitch.
I am sure that the battle for fourth position in the Constructors’ Championship will continue until the finish in Abu Dhabi, for us it is now important to perfect every stage.
