On Thursday, Ferrari drivers in Mexico City took part in a meeting with the local press, organized by Estrella Galicia, the Italian team’s beer sponsor.
“There are a lot of Ferrari fans in Mexico and we get a particularly strong impression during the Drivers’ Parade, when we pass the stadium part of the circuit,” said Charles Leclerc. “We can hear all the fans cheering and welcoming the racers, and right now you can feel the excitement here about Formula 1 and the race ahead.”
“The fans here are really passionate and noisy,” continued Carlos Sainz. “But at the same time, how should I put it… very generous and polite. They always say “please”, always thank you, and the Mexican crowd is always a pleasure to meet.”
Speaking about the challenges for next weekend, Charles said: “We want to win this race, we always set ourselves such a goal.”
“Sorry, Sergio!” – Carlos happily intervened and hinted that the favorite of the Mexican public is of course Sergio Perez, who dreams of winning in his home country.
“This year we have a competitive car and although the Red Bull team has been stronger in the last few races, we will still try to fight for the win,” added Leclerc.
There were jokes: the Scuderia racers were presented with mugs with their portraits, packed with some local Mexican snacks, apparently quite spicy and specific.
“Are you suggesting we eat so we can’t go fast later and Sergio will win the race?” – asked Charles sarcastically, causing general laughter.
But Carlos tasted the treat first and said he liked it.
“You can’t tell by your face!” – his partner noticed, but joined in anyway and noted that the snacks were very spicy in taste.
