Daniel Ricciardo has struggled all season, but the recent US Grand Prix was one of his most unsuccessful races, with the Australian finishing only 16th and losing more than a minute and a half to the winner. And this despite two safety car appearances, when the gaps were closed and the peloton was compacted.
After the race Daniel was very upset – also because he couldn’t explain exactly what the lack of speed was about. Before the Mexican weekend, he said McLaren was able to find out a lot, although he did not give any details.
Daniel Ricciardo: “Together with the engineers we analyzed the race right after the finish, but this work continued over the next few days and we spent some time on that today as well. We tried to understand exactly what was in the way and what could have been done differently.
Of course I had problems during most races of the season, but it seems to me that we have reached certain conclusions, also after the US Grand Prix, and I hope we can perform better this weekend.
Let’s see how things will develop here, but in Austin, at the very beginning of the race, I realized I was going to have a hard time. After that I tried to do at least something for the whole distance to cope with the difficulties.
But now another race awaits us, and when you’re back to work, restored your strength, and you have the next chance to accomplish something, it’s always good. The first days after the race I was in a really bad mood, but now, four days later, I’m motivated again and I’m going to try to get back to higher positions.
