Last Sunday, Esteban Ocon had some problems that prevented him from going as fast as he wanted, but according to the Alpine F1 racer, after the US Grand Prix they tried to understand the causes of the problems together with the team, and in Mexico City will he try to bounce back.
Esteban Ocon: “I’m in a good mood for the start of the Mexican weekend. Perhaps my best memory of this Grand Prix is in 2017 when I finished fifth in a Force India car, and for the first twenty laps I was generally in third position.
And although I was ahead of the Ferrari racers then, I was close to the podium for the first time. Overall, I like this song and the Mexican crowd always supports us.
After the US Grand Prix, together with the team, we have tried to understand the causes of the problems and we have some ideas. Of course it’s good that the next race takes place a week after a difficult weekend in Austin.
Despite not having enough pace, we tried to fight for the points last Sunday – before my last pit stop I was eighth. It was of course a good break after starting from the pitlane. Overall, it’s great that we’ll be racing again in a few days and I’ll have a chance to recoup.
On the Mexican track, the most important thing is to get a good grip. The air is thin here, so it’s physically demanding for everyone, but the equipment is working to its limits, especially the brakes and the engine. If both Alpine cars finish as close to the top five as possible, that would be great as we can slightly increase our lead over McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship.”
