Alex Albon: The team wants to win back in Melbourne

On the final lap in Jeddah, Williams drivers Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon failed to finish. The British team is looking forward to a more productive weekend in Melbourne.

Dave Robson, Chief Race Engineer: “A race in Melbourne is a fantastic example of how we are returning to pre-pandemic normality. It’s a shame we didn’t run at Albert Park for two years, so now we’re happy to return to the revamped track. Traditionally, engineers and racers had to solve difficult problems, and overtaking was difficult. The updated configuration and DRS zones should make overtaking easier – the track has the potential to become one of the best on the calendar.

The complexity of the weekend includes a bold choice of Pirelli lineups. As in Jeddah, the C2 and C3 will be the main tires, while the qualifying tires in Melbourne will be the C5. As a result, the qualifying and race settings should be different, although we won’t be able to change them on Saturday night. A compromise solution will be decisive.

After a tough weekend in Jeddah, we look forward to a clean race and unleashing the potential of the FW44. The team will face different challenges than in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but we are open and ready for a pragmatic approach.”

Nicholas Latific: “I am very excited about my first race at Albert Park. I haven’t raced Formula 1 here, although in 2020 I was able to inspect the track and Melbourne, which I liked.

The track looks interesting, so I’m happy to spend a whole weekend. The new configuration looks promising. I hope it will make the races more exciting and we will please the fans who have been waiting for us for so long.”

Alex Albon: “Melbourne is a great city, so I’m happy to be back after a long absence. Fans know how to have a good time in Australia, so there is always a great atmosphere in Albert Park. I’m sure it will be even better after a few years of absence.

There have been a lot of changes on the track this year, so I’m excited to see how the FW44 will perform on the track. I know the whole team wants to bounce back after a difficult stage in Jeddah, so we will attack as much as possible to get the best possible result.”
