Alfa Romeo racers believe the C42 car is capable of good speeds on the Mexican track, but only Valtteri Bottas managed to work well on it, while his partner was plagued with problems.
Valtteri Bottas (9th): “It’s great to be back on the Mexican track, and today the car showed itself well. In preparation for this weekend, I expected this route to suit us, and so far everything is running smoothly.
The behavior of the car leaves a pleasant impression, so the day went well, while the second session was of course completely devoted to Pirelli tire testing. It seemed to me that the rubber intended for next year works almost the same as the rubber we are dealing with this year.
Of course there is a difference in the level of air pressure, with the new rubber it is slightly lower and it can be felt, but otherwise everything is very similar.
Guanyu Zhou (20th): “Over the course of the first practice, the gearbox got stuck during the starting procedure, but the team solved the problem, we returned to the track and everything went fine.
Then in the second session, first on a long series of circles, we were chased by several minor issues and eventually there was a problem with the hydraulic system. I had to leave the car on the track to avoid bigger problems.
In general, the day is not easy, there are many difficulties, but at least I was able to learn the job. It looks like the car can handle a good pace on normal tires, but now we have to prepare for Saturday’s qualifying. Let’s hope tomorrow goes better.
The new products we tried in Austin work quite effectively here, and if we manage to get over the technical issues, everything should be fine.
