McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo set the fourteenth and fifteenth time respectively in the second practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix. The team is not hiding that they have to add, but they expect to reach the final of the qualifier.
Lando Norris (14th): “Good laziness. We have made progress, but the pace of the car is not what we need. The track has very low downforce and slippery tarmac, but after two sessions I feel more confident.
Overall, we have learned a lot, but we will continue to work to prepare for Saturday’s qualifying.”
Daniel Riccardo (15th): “It’s great to be back on the track. We had some problems, but nevertheless I think we had a good day. We found some things to work on, but at the same time we took a step forward with the settings. I think all we need is a smooth Saturday.
It’s hard to say what positions we’re in against rivals, but overall I’m happy with the car and confident enough. I hope we don’t have any problems on Saturday and that we can improve and prepare for qualifying.”
Andrea Stella, race director: “As usual, the Rodriguez brothers’ track had problems with low air density at this altitude. As a nice result of the day we can say that we have collected a lot of information and know what to do for Saturday.
In the second training session, the mandatory Pirelli tests were completed, so the alignment of forces is unclear. We expect a close fight in the middle of the pack, but we will try to reach the final of qualifying and have a good race on Sunday.”
