Next season, the intention is to run six stages in weekend format with a qualifying on Friday and a sprint on Saturday. The executive director of the route in Baku, Arif Rahimov, said one such phase is expected to be accepted in Azerbaijan.
“In general, I support periodic resizing to regain interest,” says Arif Rahimov. – I like sprint races because they add more action. In fact, sprint races are attractive not only to Baku, but also to any promoters, because if the sprint is called a race, this Saturday will gather more spectators in the stands than qualifying.
We’re a market where the fans aren’t very well versed in the sport, so when we talk about two races, it sounds appealing to people who don’t really understand the difference between a sprint and a real race. I mean it will really increase the turnout on Saturday and give fans more bang for their buck because they think they are buying a ticket to two races. In addition, they really buy a ticket for two races.
Next year I would like to spend a sprint weekend in Baku. I hope our podium will be among the six who get this chance.
