Mick Schumacher: We are not completely satisfied with the pace

Pietro Fittipaldi returned to the wheel of Formula 1 in Mexico City on Friday, replacing Kevin Magnussen in first practice. The Haas rider had to end the job early due to problems with the turbine.

Mick Schumacher did both practices and said there was still work to be done to get more speed out of the car.

Mick Schumacher (17th): “The day went well, but it is clear that the new generation of cars has given us different tasks on this track. It turned out to be fun, it was nice to see a lot of fans in the stands – on Saturday and Sunday we expect even more spectators.

We still have to work as we are not completely satisfied with the pace of the car. It is necessary to add to take higher positions at the start, which will allow you to participate in the race.

I would like to see some rain for the rest of the days as I think a wet track would suit our car better. I intend to dance to make it rain.”

Kevin Magnussen (18th): “We returned to Mexico City and I was able to do a few laps. We had to test Pirelli tires so the lap times are not very revealing, but still I could feel the track and find the rhythm. ”

Pietro Fittipaldic (20th in first practice): “It’s nice to be behind the wheel again, even if only for a few laps. However, it was helpful for me to evaluate the Formula 1 car on another great track. I’m happy with the opportunity – I felt comfortable and got used to it quickly. On the first drive to the track I didn’t use DRS but I showed a good time so I’m happy.

I then returned to the track for a second set of laps on new tires and prepared for the next step forward, but unfortunately there were technical difficulties. But I’m glad I got back into the rhythm quickly and felt comfortable behind the wheel. The first practice was short, but I get the chance to get behind the wheel again in Abu Dhabi.”

Gunther Steiner, team leader: “Mick had a really good day with the whole program, so he’s ready for Saturday. Unfortunately, after nine laps on the car, Pietro’s turbine failed, so he had to finish the job without completing the test program.

Ours had to replace the car’s engine – the team did a fantastic job, leaving Kevin only 30 minutes of the second practice session. He was able to test prototype tires but didn’t have enough time to work with the actual tires. He did gain job experience. Now we need a good third practice to prepare for qualifying.”
