After five races of the season, Haas is eighth in the Constructors’ Championship. Kevin Magnussen appreciated his team’s results and suggested he be competitive again in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Q: Unlike your opponents, you did not participate in February’s pre-season testing in Barcelona. Does this put you at a disadvantage?
Kevin Magnussen: I know the track in Barcelona better than any other track in Formula 1. I don’t think I will be at a disadvantage just because I didn’t participate in the tests.
The car is fast – we’ve seen that on four of the five tracks that have already performed this season. I think we will also have a good time in Barcelona.
Q: How well do you understand the car after five races of the season and can you get rid of its weaknesses and reveal its strengths?
Kevin Magnussen: Our car is pretty good in every way – on a wet track, on a dry, on a dry road. As usual, the goal is to get into the working range of institutions, and I think the team is doing a good job this year.
Q: Your best result in Spain with a Haas is sixth in 2018. Can we confirm this weekend the form you are showing this season?
Kevin Magnussen: I think we can be quite happy with the start of the season. Of course there are always things that can be done better, this year too, but the start of the season turned out to be quite good and the team is looking forward to continuing.
Q: In Barcelona the balance of power remains the same as in the first five races?
Kevin Magnussen: I think there is a pretty good chance that the balance of power will change a bit this year. We saw that Mercedes was out of shape and Alfa Romeo almost won the podium several times – the competition is very high and the season is going to be interesting.
It’s not nice when you know you’re not competitive, but this year everyone has a chance. I think it’s more interesting and fun this way – I absolutely enjoy what’s happening.
