Alfa Romeo’s best result in qualifying for the Mexican Grand Prix was Valtteri Bottas’ sixth place. His teammate Guanyu Zhou did not reach the final and showed the twelfth fastest time. The team hopes to earn points by interrupting a run of three failed races in a row.
Valtteri Bottas (6th): “We have speed all weekend – already in the first practice it became clear that we were in the top ten. I don’t know if this is because some teams had problems with the pace or something else, but we showed a stable pace in all sessions of the weekend and even managed to add. Perhaps the novelties the team prepared for the final races on this track worked.
I’m comfortable in the car and I was able to put in a good lap in qualifying. It’s nice to be in the final again.
I think we will also have a good pace in the race. I hope we become the best team in the middle group. All it takes is to drive the first lap cleanly. Then we have a chance of a productive race.”
Guanyu Zhou (12th): “Of course I would like to qualify higher, but I still have a good result considering how the weekend is going. We had problems that made it difficult for me to find the right rhythm, but in qualifying I did my best.
The results are very tight and I came up just a little short to get into the top ten. In any case, our team is in a good position to compete for the points.”
