Williams drivers Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi completed the qualifying round of the Mexican Grand Prix with 19th and 20th times. However, thanks to penalties from Kevin Magnussen and Lance Stroll, they will regain positions on the grid.
Alex Albon (19th): “The car drove well and I was happy in the third practice, but in the first part of qualifying the track temperature rose, leading to a noticeable decrease in grip compared to practice. We had few chances to get into the second part, but the last lap showed hope.
I was fast on the last lap, but in one of the corners I had a lot of oversteer compared to the previous lap, although my speed was the same. Modern cars are very difficult to drive at the limit, especially our car.
The race gets interesting. It may seem easy to overtake at this track, but it’s actually quite difficult and some of the competitors were faster than we expected.”
Nicholas Latific (20th): “Tough day, but before the weekend we knew we would have a hard time on this track. Before qualifying, the situation looked pretty positive, so it was a surprise to us that we couldn’t take a step forward.
There were some problems with the second set of tires, which didn’t help either. Otherwise I could improve the time by a few tenths. In the end we didn’t have enough grip.”
