Access to the paddock is given to a limited number of people, but in the last Grand Prix there are a lot of fans who sometimes don’t behave quite correctly. AlphaTauri rider Pierre Gasly said that for the second weekend in a row, someone opened his bag with personal belongings and documents.
Pierre Gasly: “Allowing people in the paddock is normal, but some guests violate our personal space. People come to the garages for qualifying and ask to be photographed, even if they are not even guests of our team. We pay attention to the fans when we have the chance, but for us this is the place to work.
When I returned to the hotel, I saw that my bag containing personal belongings and documents had been unbuttoned. I didn’t even feel when it happened. Obviously it was not opened by me and not my manager. Last week my bag was opened in Austin as I left the paddock.
It is clear that some measures need to be taken to increase our personal security. Like I said, I’m not against communication with the public at all, I always give the fans as much time as possible, but you have to make sure that everyone is comfortable in this situation.
We talked about it during the pilots briefing. It’s great, kids and adults like to communicate with us, but we have to organize it so that it doesn’t violate our personal space.
