Daniel Ricciardo: There is more chaos in the paddock

In the days of the Mexican Grand Prix in the paddock of the circuit named after the Rodriguez brothers, there is a real pandemonium, there is literally no audience of the fans. Formula 1 racers are concerned about the overly free behavior of the local public and Daniel Ricciardo even suggested introducing certain rules for visitors to the paddock.

Mexican fans are passionate, fond of motorsport people, which of course gives this stage of the championship a special festive atmosphere, but every year the number of guests in the paddock grew and apparently this weekend reached some critical values. In addition, riders complain about the unpretentious behavior of some of them.

This topic came up during the pilots’ briefing and according to The Race, organizers even had to increase the number of guards to keep order in the paddock.

“To be honest, there was more chaos this year,” said Daniel Ricciardo. I think this phenomenon has two sides. At one time, the atmosphere in the paddock left something to be desired and I remember it was pretty boring there 8-10 years ago. I like it when the paddock has a party atmosphere because in my opinion this place has to be really fun.

But at the same time, certain limits must be observed. I think visiting the paddock with a VIP pass is a privilege, so the public should act like an adult and show respect. This year it wasn’t always like that, people sometimes lose control of themselves. It would be necessary to introduce some rules so cardholders know how to behave in the paddock.

Perhaps the introduction of such rules will help solve the problem, because now there are no rules at all. Maybe then the audience will calm down. Adults should behave like adults.”

Carlos Sainz feels the “special attitude” of the Mexican fans because he is Spanish and speaks the same language with them. The Ferrari driver spoke more softly about the problem: “I love it, I love it when the fans surround me, I love it when everyone around us greets. I just want everyone to stay calm: we’re still in the paddock and there’s no need to push or yell too hard. And the rest suits me.”

The FIA has already started investigating the situation and we can apparently expect some measures to be taken in the future.
