Vettel’s father could become a TV commentator

When Sebastian Vettel heard that his father tried his hand as a commentator on Sky Deutschland during practice three in Austin, he just laughed: “Did anyone understand what he was saying?” The fact is that Vettel Sr. has a clear dialectical accent, characteristic of the German country of Hesse, and he himself also reacted with humor to his first commentary experience.

“It was fun, but I probably should have used subtitles,” said Norbert, 63. – I love it when the audience likes it. I hope I haven’t said too much!

German fans reacted really warmly to the comments of Vettel Sr., who proved to be a real expert on motorsport, which is not surprising considering he was a mechanic for his son when Sebastian was karting.

In addition, he shared his concerns about the future of German motorsport with the public, and he is particularly concerned about the financial side of things: “When Sebastian started karting, we spent 5000 marks, and I have no doubt that even now there are parents who would like to do this with your children. But the world of motorsport has completely changed, and now you have to spend 100 thousand euros to buy all the necessary equipment.

Perhaps someone is thinking about giving the child to karting, but when they hear about such amounts, they immediately abandon such plans.

There is a risk that not a single driver from Germany will stay in Formula 1: Sebastian Vettel is preparing to retire, and Mick Schumacher’s prospects are questionable. His cousin David, the son of Ralf Schumacher, spent a season in Formula 3 in 2021, but was forced to switch to the DTM bodywork this year for financial reasons.

“It’s a shame if there won’t be any German drivers in the World Championship next year or in the near future, because I don’t see anyone who would be on the way,” said Vettel Sr. – And it’s still hard for me to imagine Formula 1 without my son. If it was only in the race, Sebastian would have performed a long time, but it is fraught with enormous stress. Let’s see what he’s going to do now, although I don’t think he can see everything from the side.”

It is quite possible that Sky Deutschland will still invite Norbert Vettel in 2023.

“That was great! – said Sasha Roos, staff commentator for the TV channel, the first experience of such a collaboration. “He amused us with jokes and anecdotes, in addition he is passionate about racing and has a special view on motorsport. It would be interesting to continue working with Norbert.”

“If they pay for my flights, hotels and rental cars, I agree! I don’t need anything else,” Vettel Sr confirmed.
