Charles Leclerc: We had the worst race of the season

Charles Leclerc finished sixth in Mexico City, well over a minute behind leader Max Verstappen. The Ferrari driver called the final race the worst of the season and urged the team to investigate the reasons for the speed loss.

“As optimistic as I am, even before the start of the stage I knew that a difficult race was waiting for us,” Racingnews365 quoted Charles Leclerc as saying. – However, I did not think that it would be so difficult and that we would lose so much to the leaders. I hope things change in Brazil.

In any case, I don’t expect such a bad race anymore, which, together with Spa, turned out to be the worst of the season. I think such a performance is an exception, but you still need to understand the reasons to perform better in similar circumstances in the future.

We understand very well why we underperformed in Spa and I think we showed the right response in Monza. It is clear that Monza’s characteristics are different from those of the Spa, but the same problems awaited us.

In Mexico City, a different kind of problem arose. I don’t know if we can find a solution quickly, but again, I think such an occurrence is the exception rather than the rule.”

Charles Leclerc added that it was not one specific problem that led to a loss of speed in Mexico City, but a combination of several factors: “I had several problems during qualifying. Without them I think I would be closer to the leaders.

There were no problems with the DRS in the race because we were able to replace the rear wing, but the engine problems remained. However, only because of them it is impossible to explain such a delay. We have to keep working to figure out how to minimize losses on bad days like in Mexico City.”
