Daniel Ricciardo plans to miss next season to try to return to F1 in 2024 with a competitive team. However, 2009 world champion Jenson Button doubts the Australian will succeed after a one-year hiatus in his career.
Jenson Button: “I think Daniel didn’t want to go to a team that takes the last positions, as it’s difficult for a driver who claimed victories to go to a team where he can only fight for points occasionally. It’s hard, but I think this option would be best for him.
He should have changed teams, worked hard and showed people what he can do in a car that might suit him better. Then everyone would forget what had happened a year earlier. People don’t remember how good Riccardo is because of the last year and a half to two years in his performance.
Daniel has talent and if he drives the right car for him he can show his abilities and get the chance to return to the top team. But will that happen if he misses the season? People usually remember the events of last year.
I think it will be difficult for Ricciardo to return to a competitive team after a one-year hiatus.”
