Briton Johnny Edgar is unable to continue his Formula 3 performances due to health problems. The decision was made by the driver along with his family, management, Red Bull and the Trident team. The team has not clarified the diagnosis, but Edgar is known to have had Crohn’s disease.
Edgar will be replaced in Trident by Oliver Rassmussen, who spent last season in Formula 3 with the HWA team.
Giacomo Ricci, Trident CEO: “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Johnny Edgar and wish him a speedy recovery. He was weakened by physical problems from the start of the season, but he fought like a lion, didn’t back down and kept racing.
However, his condition is forcing him to take a career break which should aid his recovery. Johnny has always done his best for the team, has a great family and is a nice person himself.”
Oliver Rasmussen: “I am delighted to participate with Trident in the upcoming Formula 3 races. It’s not often a driver gets the chance to join a championship team, so I want to make the most of it. I will thank Trident 100% for trusting me – I can’t wait to start in team colors.”
