Almost two weeks ago, we quoted Haas boss Günter Steiner as saying he would pick a teammate for Kevin Magnussen next season after the double races in Austin and Mexico City. The time has come and in an interview with RTL Steiner confirmed that the line-up will be determined for the season finale in Abu Dhabi, but possibly for the next race in Sao Paulo.
When asked what Mick Schumacher’s chances are of keeping his place at Haas, Steiner said: “His chances are 50/50. What is more important to me is not the result of one race or the speed in one lap, but which decision is best for the team in the medium and long term.
Don’t think if Mick earns points now, then his place. When choosing a rider, we will take into account who can lead the team consistently in the future.”
