In Mexico, Max Verstappen took his 14th win of the season, an all-time record in Formula 1 history. But of course, after the finish, the two-time world champion announced that he would compete in the remaining two races.
Max Verstappen (1st): “Of course a good start helped me a lot and made it easier for the rest of the race. I kept the lead after Turn 1 and of course we chose a different tactic than the opponents, which allowed us to take another nice win! It is awesome!
We had to save the rubber, because on the Medium tires we had a very long drive, but we managed. The atmosphere here is incredible, I love coming to Mexico!
This is my 14th win of the season, and so far this year has been great, we’re enjoying it, that’s for sure, but now we’re going to try and get new wins!
Sergio Perez (3rd): “Today I did my best, attacking at the limit, but unfortunately the pit stop wasn’t very smooth, and because of this I couldn’t get ahead of Lewis Hamilton due to tactics, and it’s very difficult to overtake here. When I was chasing his car it was hard to keep up with him and I had to stay in third place.
Of course, given the difficulties with overtaking, it is very important that I was able to get ahead of George Russell at the start in Turn 4, this was a key moment. I thought I could catch up with Lewis later, but alas, it didn’t work out, but I really wanted to please the Mexican fans!
Still, the podium is good and although I wanted to achieve more, at least it’s a good day!”
