Cloudy. Dry. Air +25…24С, track +46…37С
By the Mexican weekend, the fate of the Individual and Constructors’ Championship titles had been decided, but the battle for other positions continued. The high altitude of the circuit named after the Rodriguez brothers above sea level and the thin air affected the balance of power and added intrigue. At Ferrari, they were forced to reduce the power of the engines – and let Mercedes run its course.
Russell set the fastest time on Friday and Saturday morning, who also shared the front row of the grid with the winning qualifier, Verstappen.
Starting from the second row, Hamilton and local crowd favourite, Perez, have been on the lookout for everyone in Mexico City this weekend. Sergio only qualified fourth after complaining about electrical and DRS issues, but qualifying positions on this track don’t always determine race results.
Two riders lost positions on the grid: Stroll three for the Alonso incident in Austin and Magnussen five for replacing the combustion engine.
Pirelli brought to the stage the “middle” trio of compositions – C2, C3 and C4 in the role of Hard, Medium and Soft. Verstappen, Perez, Sainz, Leclerc, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Vettel and Latifi started on Soft, the rest opted for Medium.
Verstappen kept the lead at the start. Hamilton and Perez were ahead of Russell. Leclerc and Alonso-Bottas. Stroll rose from 20th to 15th place. Norris lost two positions.
Top ten in the second round: Verstappen – Hamilton – Perez – Russell – Sainz – Leclerc – Alonso – Bottas – Windows – Norris.
On lap 7, Latifi overtook Magnussen for 19th place.
On lap 9, Ricciardo overtook Zhou for 12th.
On lap 14, Gasly caught up with Stroll and pushed him off the track – the stewards considered the incident and gave Pierre a five-second penalty.
On lap 18 Stroll changed tires, on lap 24 Pérez had a hitch with the removal of the left rear wheel and he came back in sixth.
On lap 24 Latifi made a pit stop, on lap 25 Schumacher and Verstappen.
On lap 27, Perez Leclerc was ahead on fresh tyres.
On lap 29 Leclerc switched tires, on lap 30 Hamilton, Sainz and Tsunoda. Carlos had a hitch with the right front wheel mounting.
On lap 32 Norris made a pit stop, on lap 34 Ocon, on lap 35 Russell.

Top ten in round 50: Verstappen – Hamilton – Perez – Russell – Sainz – Leclerc – Alonso – Ocon – Bottas – Norris.
On lap 51, Ricciardo attacked Tsunoda, they touched the wheels – Yuki’s car went up, fell – and went into the pits with a broken suspension, and Daniel was given a 10-second penalty.
On lap 54, Gasly Vettel was ahead in the battle for 13th place.
Latifi switched tires on lap 55.
On lap 56, Norris Ricciardo pushed on for Daniel to try to win back the penalty.
On lap 58, Ricciardo overtook Bottas for ninth.
On lap 58, Zhou overtook Vettel for 14th.
On lap 61 Ricciardo overtook Alonso, on lap 62 Ocon moved up to seventh.
On lap 65 Fernando Alonso stopped the car in the safety zone due to problems with the power plant. The Race Directorate has announced a virtual safety car mode.
On lap 69, Gasly passed Elbon for 11th place.
On lap 70 Russell received the Soft kit – leaving behind the best lap of the race.
Max Verstappen won the Mexico City Grand Prix with his 14th win of the season – a new all-time record – and 34th in his career.
Lewis Hamilton climbed to the second step of the podium in race two in a row, Sergio Perez – to the delight of the stands – to third, repeating his best result at home.
In two weeks, the battle in Brazil will continue.
