Laurent Rossi: Gasly and Ocon get equal opportunities

Next season Alpine will see Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, who didn’t get along well when they were young. This may lead to conflict within the team, but Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi is confident that the riders will show professionalism.

Laurent Rossi: “We are not going to make a division into first and second songs. There is no such division in the case of Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon, nor will there be such division between Gasly and Ocon. They are equal to us.

I get the impression that they both see Alpine as an opportunity for them. I hope they have grown up and want to achieve something great together. At 15 you can afford a lot, but at 26 it’s time to get serious. This may be the last major contract of their career for each of them.

If a rider has not become a champion by the age of 26, then he comes to the point where he has to ask himself whether he is able to take a qualitative step forward. I expect Gasly and Okon to show everything. Moreover, Pierre is exactly who we need for further progress. We signed a contract with him because he meets all the criteria. In addition, he is French.

First and foremost, the speed of the rider is important to us. The idea was to bring two of the best riders available to Alpine to further develop the team.”
