Schumacher’s Champion Ferrari is up for auction

The Ferrari F2003-GA of Michael Schumacher, with which he won the title in 2003, is up for auction. Auction house RM Sotheby’s will hold it in Geneva on November 9.

Chassis serial number 229 is expected to go under the hammer for an impressive £8 million.

Speaking of this car, Schumacher won five races that year: in Spain, Austria, Canada, Italy and the USA. The auction house’s representative emphasized the uniqueness of the example, saying: “This is a special lot as it is one of only four cars in Ferrari history to have won more than four Grand Prix, driven by Michael Schumacher. , one of the most capable racers of his generation.”

In addition, with this car he won three pole positions, recorded the best three laps and finished in the top three twice – in Monaco and in France.

What is special about the 2003 season is that Schumacher then won his sixth title, breaking Juan Manuel Fangio’s record, which had stood for 46 years.

The lot description on the auction house’s website also states that the car is in excellent condition, having undergone a full restoration in 2022 at the Ferrari base in Maranello, and can participate in historic vehicle races.

Connoisseurs of Formula 1 history will of course recall that the 2003 championship was interesting because when Kimi Raikkonen won his first race, speaking for McLaren, took the podium ten times and lost only two points to Schumacher at the end of the season. And in 2007 it was he who took Michael’s place in the Scuderia and became world champion.
