Max Verstappen: Sprint is not a real race

The last sprint race of this year will be held in the Brazilian stage of the championship, but according to Max Verstappen she will not give him any pleasure.

Based on the results of Saturday’s sprint, the starting order in Sunday’s Grand Prix will be determined – in the championship calendar in 2021 and 2022. Such an extensive program included three stages, and next season there will be six.

“I don’t like it, I don’t like this weekend format,” RacingNews365 quoted the two-time world champion as saying. – I have nothing against one training session directly followed by qualifying – I think this option suits me even better. But in sprint racing there is no right attitude. Every time I wear them, all my thoughts are on one thing: “We should try not to damage the car, but at the same time stay in the top three.”

From my point of view, this is not a real race, because then we have to go to the start of the main race of the weekend, for which at least more points are awarded, and there you always risk more.

Maybe some bright emotions are caused by a different start, but only those riders who start from the far rows will find their way to the front, because most of the time you put tires that can barely withstand the whole sprint distance, so there aren’t many events during this race. I think there should only be one race before the weekend.

I don’t understand what the problems are with this because in my opinion we have had so many exciting races and there is no need to add another third of the Grand Prix distance. At the same time, everyone is always as careful as possible because if you fight for third position and there is little contact then you roll back and your task for the race on Sunday gets seriously complicated.

This means you probably won’t take any chances, and in racing you shouldn’t. That is why the sprint race is not that interesting, but of course we will try to win it.”
