Carlos Sainz: The Spanish circuit has its own character

Before the home race, Carlos Sainz answered questions from the Ferrari press office…

Q: The track in Barcelona is well known to test drivers, what are its main features? Which area do you like the most?
Carlos Sainz: We know the track really well, the riders like it. The configuration includes fast, medium speed and slow corners, which makes it difficult to find a balance that is optimal for the entire circle.

I think the 3rd and 9th turns are the most interesting. In the third, long, fast right turn, there are very high G’s from entrance to exit, and the 9th is an excellent fast turn on the rise, which we expect to pass without taking our feet off the accelerator, at least in the qualification. The Spanish track has its own character, I’m looking forward to driving it in racing conditions with a new car.

Q: In the final stage in Miami you showed your best result in qualifying and climbed to the podium for the ninth time in your career. What is your goal for the Spanish Grand Prix?
Carlos Sainz: The goal is the same as every race weekend – get the most out of the car and try to win the race.

The fact that this is my home race makes it special because of the fans and the support I feel, but the goal is always the same: to fight for the best possible result.

Question: This time in Spain there are no restrictions on the number of spectators, the grandstand named after you is open again. What do you expect from your fans and what do you plan to do for them?
Carlos Sainz: After two years that the Grand Prix was held in front of empty stands, I am happy that all tickets are sold out this year. It’s great that the CS55 stand is working again. This is a great tradition that allows me to communicate more closely with the fans.

But I have no doubt that all the stands will support us, and I can guarantee the fans that me and the team will do everything I can to give them a reason to be happy! I hope we have a great race weekend where everyone can enjoy the thrilling thrills of Formula 1.
