In an interview with the team’s press service, Haas driver Mick Schumacher spoke about Brazil’s upcoming Grand Prix race weekend, which will be held in a sprint format on Saturday.
Q: What do you like about the Brazilian circuit?
Mick Schumacher: I like that the track is smooth – it was one of the first I drove in a Formula 1 simulator. To be honest, I just love coming to Interlagos. Brazil has great fans and I look forward to returning.
Q: This coming weekend will be the third of the season, which will be held in the sprint format on Saturday. How do you evaluate the performance of the team in the sprints, and are adjustments needed to make this format more interesting?
Mick Schumacher: People are constantly thinking about how to improve the format. I believe that we are constantly learning something new, and the information received will help with that. As for our team, we want to have the best weekend possible and make the most of all the opportunities that will arise during qualifying.
On the Brazilian circuit, I felt comfortable from the first lap, so I’m looking forward to coming back. I would like to spend a normal race weekend at this track to have more time to prepare. The sprint weekend format is a challenge, but we are always ready to take it on.
Q: Have you prepared a special helmet design for the upcoming race weekend?
Mick Schumacher: Yes, in São Paulo I will use a special helmet design developed with a partner of the 1&1 team. After the weekend I will donate this helmet to a charity auction of RTL. I don’t want to reveal the details of the livery in advance, so wait until the weekend, but I can say that I worked on the helmet with Jens Munser, who does all the designs for me.
Q: Haas and AlphaTauri have a very close battle in the Constructors’ Championship. Does this affect how you approach the race, as each point earned can be decisive?
Mick Schumacher: If you act too carefully, you may not be able to earn points. We have to take every opportunity to finish in positions that give the team points.
