The Porsche works Formula E team has unveiled the third generation (Gen3) car that Pascal Wehrlein and António Felix da Costa will drive in the ninth season of the World Electric Car Championship.
The presentation of the Gen3 machine took place the night before in Italy, at the Porsche Center in Franciacorta. The traditional red-black-white colors have been preserved in the war paint, but the car has been decorated in a new way and looks very impressive.
Developed by the Porsche Research Center in Weissach, Germany, the Porsche 99X Electric will make its racing debut on January 14, 2023 in Mexico City, where the first round of Formula E’s ninth season will take place.
Compared to the previous generation, the machine has become faster, lighter and more powerful, but at the same time more efficient. It is specially designed for racing on tight city circuits, so the wheelbase has been shortened slightly and the track is narrower. The battery has become smaller, but at the same time more powerful, and the efficiency of the energy recovery system has also increased.
Antonio Felix da Costa: “Our new car is a big step forward. It’s lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, making us riders smile with satisfaction. I’m new to the Porsche factory team, so over the past few weeks I’ve been meeting engineers and mechanics, trying to find my place in the team, but I immediately felt very comfortable.
We also got along well with Pascal, my new teammate, with whom we had competed in several series before. But now we have a common goal: to win races and championships together with Porsche, because this brand is synonymous with victory. Together with the new generation of machines, we will try to achieve this as quickly as possible.”
Pascal Wehrlein: “During the tests of the Porsche 99X Electric, I immediately felt how good the car is. We got a lot of information and made a lot of progress. To start with, it was necessary to find the optimal settings, but soon we started working on speed and of course on efficiency, as this is a key factor on which success depends.
This has been a very interesting job and in the time remaining before the start of the season we will try to get to know the new generation car better in order to prepare as best as possible for the first race of the championship which will be held. become. in Mexico City.”
