De Vries: It’s important to take your chance at the right time

In 2019 Nick de Vries became the Formula 2 champion, but was unable to transfer to Formula 1, he competed in endurance racing for several years and became the Formula E champion.

This year, De Vries made his F1 debut in adulthood – at the age of 27 – the last of all current drivers, but he believes age doesn’t matter as he still got his chance.

Nick de Vries: “Everyone goes their own way. My age or the path to Formula 1 almost doesn’t matter. It’s much more important to get your chance at the right time – and I got it.

It seemed to me that the chance of getting into Formula 1 gets smaller every year, but I never gave up and in the end I was able to realize my dream.

This year in Monza [где де Вриз заменял приболевшего Алекса Элбона] experience and maturity helped me feel confident. I am very grateful for everything that happened that weekend.

In 2023, Yuki Tsunoda will be my partner. When he was in Formula 2, I liked watching him. Plus, he always says what he thinks. Yuki is talented and very fast. For the first time in my career, I have a partner who is smaller than me, even though we have the same shoe size, as we recently discovered.
