Erickson: Ricciardo impressed with Indy 500 winner’s ring

Markus Erikson, now IndyCar racer and Indy 500 winner, finished his tour of Sweden’s cities yesterday, meeting not only fans but of course the local press as well.

In an interview with tabloid Expressen, Marcus was asked to assess prospects for a switch to IndyCar by Daniel Ricciardo, who will retire from Formula 1 this year and it is not yet clear what the Australian will do in the coming years.

But before Erickson’s answer is given, it should be made clear that the winner of the classic Indianapolis race will receive not only the Borg-Warner Trophy challenge cup and a very substantial cash prize, but also the traditional gold ring adorned with diamonds.

“Actually, we had a little chat in Austin when I was at the US Grand Prix recently. But he doesn’t like ovals, he doesn’t want to race there,” Marcus said, turning his intonation into a joke. – But he was clearly impressed by the ring awarded to the Indy 500 winner, so I Don’t rule out Daniel changing his mind because of this!

However, it seems that while he has no intention of moving to IndyCar, at least it seemed that way to me.

Ricciardo really has other plans: he hopes to return to Formula 1 in 2024, hoping to work for one of the top teams as a reserve driver next season.

Erickson says he understands the difficulties Ricciardo faced at McLaren, because during the Swede’s career in Formula 1, which lasted from 2014 to 2018, there were many of them: “I know for myself that if you don’t If you have confidence in the car, you easily lose confidence in your own abilities, after which everything flies into the abyss at lightning speed.

But Daniel is a very good racer, he hasn’t forgotten how to drive fast, and it’s more about the lack of confidence in a particular car. It is important that the car suits your driving style, then you will regain confidence.”
