McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo spoke about their expectations for the upcoming Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Lando Norris: “I’m looking forward to hitting the track behind the wheel of a new car in Melbourne. The last time we raced in Australia was three years ago and the track has changed since then. It will be interesting to see how much progress we can make.
The podium in Melbourne is special to me as I made my debut at this track in 2019. We haven’t raced in Albert Park since then due to the pandemic, but I’ve worked hard on the simulator to get used to it and remember the changes.
The race in Jeddah showed that we have made strides, but there is still a long way to go. Earned points have become a pleasant reward for hard work. The team on the track and at the base continues to refine the car to reveal its speed. We know that there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Daniel Riccardo: “It’s good to be home! I’m happy to be back in Melbourne. Nothing compares to home fans, because Australian fans are among the best in the world. After the stage in Saudi Arabia, I returned to Perth and now I feel rested and ready for one of my favorite weekends of the season and I want to evaluate the new configuration, which seems fast.
I am saddened by how the race in Jeddah ended for me, but encouraged that the hard work is starting to pay off. Last weekend there were a lot of positives – I feel more comfortable in the car.
Much remains to be done – we are focused on the task ahead. The team will return to the track and will fight with all their might – I hope we will please all shows.
Andreas SeidliTeam Principal: “The team and I are delighted to be back in Australia, especially as this will be Daniel’s first home race with McLaren.
The last time we raced at this track was in 2019 and since then there have been many notable changes – several corners have been widened and the chicane has been replaced by a fast right-hand turn. We’ll see how the new cars perform, but the changes should make for an exciting battle.
The Australian Grand Prix is a great stage, but complicated by jet lag and logistics. However, holding races around the world is one of the reasons Formula 1 is so exciting. We will continue to do our best to maximize our performance in Melbourne.”
