Alonso: Races in Brazil are often interesting

In an interview with the team’s press service, Alpine driver Fernando Alonso explained the tasks he is setting himself for the upcoming Sao Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos.

Q: How do you rate the last leg in Mexico City, which ended before you retired?
Fernando Alonso: If we are talking about the whole weekend, then Saturday went without a hitch and we made it to the final of qualifying again. In the race I rode at a comfortable pace and controlled tire wear. I was ten seconds ahead of the nearest pursuer when the engine trouble started. I stayed on track while the team tried to fix the problem, but it proved impossible. I lost a lot of time and had to stop.

Before I retired I had one of my best races of the season. We lost points again, but the team will come together and keep attacking until the end of the season.

Q: The next leg will be held in Brazil. Are you excited to be back at Interlagos?
Fernando Alonso: In Brazil there is always an element of tension, which traditionally leads to interesting races and unexpected results. It’s hard to say what the weather will be like, but in the past, such unpredictability was the reason for the races we consider classics today.

We may see mixed weather this weekend in qualifying, sprint or race. Thanks to the sprint format, we will have two attempts to earn points and extend the lead over McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.

Q: What are your goals for the last two races of the season?
Fernando Alonso: Earn maximum points. This is our goal in all races of the season, and Brazil is no exception. We believed the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship would continue until Abu Dhabi – and it happened.

You have to have a clean weekend and avoid technical problems – otherwise you can earn points by the speed of the car. We will keep attacking until the end!
