The FIA announced that it has signed a contract with Arwen.ai to leverage the company’s technology solutions, including developments in artificial intelligence, to moderate its social media channels. The UK company’s developments will be used to identify offensive and discriminatory messages.
The FIA hopes the measures taken will reduce online insults against volunteers, federation officials and participants. The partnership with Arwen.ai is an important part of a wider campaign that the FIA will launch in the coming weeks.
Mohammed bin Sulayem, FIA president: “As a governing body, we are sometimes criticized for the decisions we make to enforce technical and sporting regulations. We respect people’s right to opinion and encourage freedom of expression, but an increasing number of social media posts carry an unacceptable level of aggression.
Some of these messages are addressed to FIA personnel and volunteers. I always stand up for my employees, civil servants and volunteers. These people allow us to race safely and have everything under control. Without them there would be no race.
We also heard the opinion of Formula 1 drivers during recent briefings. They expressed their concern about this problem and expressed their willingness to take action. We call on all racing communities to unite in this mission.
Our campaign builds on the recent Drive It Out initiative. We must all work together to take action against insults, harassment and hate speech. We must fight this disease in our sport. The Arwen.ai experience will be an important resource in our efforts. Social media owners need to do their part too.”
