Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko said in an interview with RTL that Max Verstappen has surpassed everyone in terms of skill this year, he only considers Hamilton and Leclerc to be comparable rivals.
Helmut Marko: “This year Max is riding more confidently than ever before, he saves a lot of rubber and the Soft rides longer distances than other riders on harder compositions.
Max is confident from the first lap of the first practice. On a wet track he is immediately two seconds faster than his rivals, while the rest are getting used to the conditions.
Verstappen needs a car with good front-axle handling, and he doesn’t care what happens to the rear axle, although other drivers are nervous in this situation.
Only two riders can compete with him at a high level – Leclerc and Hamilton, of which Lewis has a clear advantage in terms of experience, he can motivate himself incredibly. I am convinced that Mercedes will build a more competitive car next year.”
