Hunt vs. Lauda: The Next Generation, a documentary about the rivalry between the sons of two famous sports car racing champions, recently premiered in London.
The idea of making a film about Matthias Lauda battling Freddie Hunt in GT and endurance races came to British documentary makers eight years ago after the success of the film Rush, which depicted the dramatic 1976 season when the fathers of the two drivers were fighting for the Formula 1 title. .
Those lucky enough to attend the premiere note that the sons’ approaches to racing are very similar to those of James Hunt and Niki Lauda. If, like his father, Mattias prefers the analytical method, works on nuances and tries to lose sight of nothing, then Hunt Jr. through a dashing and flamboyant steering style.
The highlight of the film is the race in Donington, for which Freddie does not hide his doubts about his own abilities and fears that he will not beat Matthias on the track.
The film will air on Sky TV on November 28, and will also appear on several streaming services, including Amazon and iTunes.
The film was produced by Branded Studios and directed by Charlotte Fantelli, the owner of the production company. Fantelli is a highly visible figure in the British film industry and has received numerous awards at documentary film festivals for her work.
