Formula 2 champion and Aston Martin reserve driver Felipe Drugovic first tested a Formula 1 car in 2022. Last week the Brazilian drove 300 kilometers at Silverstone in last year’s Aston Martin AMR21.
The distance covered allowed Felipe to receive a super license, which gives the right to participate in free practice sessions as part of the Formula 1 race weekend. The team confirmed that Drugovic will hold the first training session in Abu Dhabi, replacing Lance Stroll , and will work out a test day at the Yas Marina circuit November 22.
Felipe Drugovich: “I had an incredible first experience driving a Formula 1 car. I learned a lot and covered the mandatory distance to prepare for Abu Dhabi. The weather was difficult, but at the end of the day I managed me to do a few laps on the slicks.
The speed of the car is impressive – the gear shifts smoothly and the high downforce allows you to corner at high speeds. I really enjoyed the last day – I got the first chance to work fully with the team on track.
Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Felipe did a great job in testing at Silverstone. He quickly adapted to the car and the difficult weather conditions and picked up the pace after just a few laps.
It is always interesting to see a young driver driving his first laps in Formula 1 – Felipe took full advantage of this opportunity. He is a smart driver and worked very well with the engineers, impressing them with his professionalism, speed and feedback.”
