A few days before the start of the race weekend in Sao Paulo, Lewis Hamilton attended the official ceremony to make him an honorary citizen of Brazil. At Interlagos, the Mercedes driver shared his impressions of the new status.
Lewis Hamilton: “I had to squeeze my hand every day to believe that what happened was real. I had a very surreal experience this week – I got such an honor in this country and showed my love.
This experience is different from getting a knighthood in the UK, although at the time I was in a historic building surrounded by members of the royal family and became part of a very small group of people honored in this way.
In Brazil it was a congress with the participation of members of the government, the hall was full of people who gave me their love and energy. It’s amazing how they treat me in Brazil, I’m very grateful for that.”
