Schumacher could be reserve driver for Mercedes

Haas F1 has postponed the team roster decision until next week, choosing between Nico Hulkenberg and Mick Schumacher.

In Sao Paulo, Meek said he had a relapse: “Of course I would like to continue. If the team’s decision turns out to be negative for me, I’ll think about how to proceed, but it would be foolish not to foresee the worst-case scenario. Of course I have a “plan B” even if I want to get it out of my head.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, a contract with Mercedes for the reserve driver role could become a fallback if Daniel Ricciardo declines the offer, which is highly likely. George Russell is on a long-term contract, Lewis Hamilton announced he will continue to perform – in 2024, when Ricciardo wants to get back behind the wheel, there will most likely be no vacancies in the team.

The Mercedes reserve driver is the reserve driver for most Mercedes customer teams. And the example of Nick de Vries proves that this path can lead to driving the main car.
