In the off-season, Pirelli will test the new intermediate and wet tires with 2022 cars. If successful, such tires can be used in 2023 without preheating.
Mario IsolaPirelli: “In December this year and in February of next year we will test intermediate tires on 2022 cars.
We know we need to improve wet tire performance. Our goal is to provide teams with new intermediate and wet tires that warm up faster and perform better. If the tests are successful, the teams will receive a new intermediate tire in 2023. At the same time, we are checking whether it can be used without thermal covers.
In 2023 there may be new rain tires that do not require preheating, which is another step towards a ban on thermal covers in the future.”
