In qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, both Aston Martin drivers stopped in the second session – Sebastian Vettel set the thirteenth time, Lance Stroll – fifteenth. The squad hopes to regain some places in the sprint to start Sunday’s race from positions vying for points.
Sebastian Vettel (13th): “I always liked the weather, like in qualifying – the track was slippery and it wasn’t easy to make tire decisions. I was only tenth, or maybe less, not enough to reach the final. Such gaps make you wonder on which parts of the route it was possible to recoup these losses.
Honestly, I’m quite happy with my circle. By this time it had already started drizzling, so the time for the attempt was not very suitable. Too bad, because I thought I would make it to the final. We can still do a lot in the sprint and in the race.”
Lance Walk (15th): “Difficult session. I think we didn’t have enough pace in qualifying, so we need to understand what it’s about. Let’s see what can be done in the sprint and in the race on Sunday.
Changeable weather is expected all weekend, so we will have a lot of opportunities to overtake and earn points.”
Mike Krak, Team principal: “Unpredictable weather made qualifying difficult. In the first session the track dried up, requiring everyone to be on the track all the time. We picked the right time to switch to slicks so that Lance and Sebastian could improve.
The track was dry at the start of the second session, but at the end it started to rain again, so we couldn’t improve the times. There is a lot to fight for in the sprint – we will work hard to get a higher position at the start of Sunday’s race.”
