Qualifying in São Paulo took place in mixed conditions and ended with an unexpected win for Kevin Magnussen, who set the best lap on soft tires before it started to rain. Pirelli is satisfied with the performance of the rubber.
Simone BerraPirelli Chief Engineer: “Qualifying at Interlagos proved difficult, the rider fought in completely different conditions than during the morning practice – the temperature of the tarmac dropped from over 40 degrees to 20 when it rained.
The selected compounds worked well in different conditions: even on a cold track, the Soft tires proved effective, allowing us to achieve better results than in the first training session, despite less than optimal conditions.
Friday’s data should be confirmed during the second practice session, but it looks like all three lineups will play an important role in the different race strategy options.”
