Fernando Alonso has only two points after five Grands Prix – and on the home track he hopes to win…
Q: Stage in Miami was new to everyone. What do you remember about him?
Fernando Alonso: I think the podium in Miami is good for our sport. The whole weekend the attention for what happened was enormous, already on Thursday we felt an incredible atmosphere in the paddock.
The crowds prevented me from qualifying for the final, but I was happy to finish in the top ten, especially after we lost a few spots to the safety car. These points have been taken from me, but I hope for a good qualifying in Barcelona and a good race.
Q: Tell us about the circuit in Barcelona…
Fernando Alonso: I’ve been performing here for years, I know the track and the place well. In Barcelona you can immediately see how fast your car is compared to the rest, winter tests have been held there for years.
It’s not easy to overtake on this track, it’s important to do well in qualifying, otherwise it’s hard to earn points if there’s no safety car in the race and nothing out of the ordinary happens. This year we qualified well, I hope it will be the same this time.
Q: Do you feel extra pressure because a home race is just around the corner?
Fernando Alonso: Not. During my career I have often played in Barcelona and Valencia and I am already used to it. But I would like to come back to Spain if I have the chance, the fans are passionate and friendly. I have my own museum and circuit in Asturias where I was born, I try to visit them when I am in the country.
