Cloudy. Dry. Air +24…25С, Route +48…51С
The need for a second indoor park practice session between qualifying and sprinting has always been questionable, but it made sense in São Paulo – at Williams team candidate Logan Sargent temporarily replaced Alex Albon to drive 100km and get an extra super license point. In Mexico City, this was not possible due to red flags.
The preliminary forecast promised a high chance of precipitation, but that cleared up on Saturday. The sun broke through the rare clouds and warmed up the tarmac – the racers were able to work with rubber in roughly the same conditions under which both the sprint and Sunday race will take place.
In many teams, the program was divided – the riders worked with different rubber compounds to collect as much information as possible in an hour to prepare for the race.
The session went smoothly. Latifi crashed on the grass in Turn 12 after a braking error, but was able to continue.
The protocol was led by Esteban Ocon with a lap time of 1:14,604.
