Safnauer: The goal is to score points with two cars

Ahead of the weekend in Barcelona, Alpine sports director Otmar Szafnauer summarized the results of the final stage and discussed the team’s plans for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Q: What can you say about the results of the Miami Grand Prix?
Otmar Safnauer: It’s always great to see the excitement that Formula 1 creates in such iconic places.

As always with the new Grand Prix there were positive moments, some really great new ideas, but something needs to be finalized for the second leg. It happens all the time, it gets better little by little, but overall it was a great experience.

At the moment we are focusing on Barcelona where we will return to a more familiar environment as we visit this circuit twice a year!

Q: What are the team’s goals this weekend?
Otmar Safnauer: First of all, we have to earn points with two cars, which has not been the case since the first race of the season. This must be done in all remaining Grand Prix to meet the goals for the year.

We have a competitive car, but it’s important to convert that speed into points on Sunday. We want to rehabilitate after Miami, spend the weekend clear and with a good result. We can only control what is within our control. This is our goal in Barcelona, both riders are ready to fulfill it.

Q: What new items will the team bring to Spain?
Otmar Safnauer: The battle this year is very interesting, all teams are striving to improve their cars. So far, we’ve been pleased with the performance of the new features brought to the A522 to maintain the lead in this battle, including the new bottoms on both machines. Our refinement program is in full swing, we are preparing new items for the next phases.

In Barcelona, both cars will get a new rear wing, more effective than the previous version.
