Alonso: don’t feel like hanging out with partner

The Alpine drivers were able to score points in the sprint, but in the end, after two incidents on the first lap, when contacts between their cars took place, both ended up well outside the prize eight.

Fernando Alonso (15th): “Of course it’s far from ideal if there is already contact on the first lap of the sprint, because this race is too short and you probably won’t have time to recoup if the safety car doesn’t show up on the track or something else something happens.

On the positives, it should be noted that the car was capable of an excellent pace and we were not far behind the leaders. I was able to regain a few positions, so Sunday I will start from 15th position and if we show the same pace as today we can earn points.

There’s no need to deal with a partner because of what happened, because there’s only a few races left and then it’s all over for me. In Jeddah I was already very close to the wall, then the same thing happened in Budapest and today in the 4th corner he pushed me off the track again. But this happens when partners really compete with each other – Ocon once had a similar situation with Sergio Perez.

Incidentally, he also had an incident with Max Verstappen on this track. But nothing, there is very little left until the end of the season.”

Esteban Ocon (18th): “The whole team can only regret what happened today, because we started from good positions and are now on the last rows. This means we have a lot of work to do tomorrow and it will be important to work together to try and get through the whole pack and bounce back. Moreover, we have often succeeded in this in the past two years.

It is also important to understand what happened on the first lap of the sprint. I tried to attack McLaren and took the first leg in Turn 4, but Fernando appeared quite unexpectedly to my right and there was contact between our cars. We can say that after that my race was almost over.

I am calm about what has happened and if Fernando is in the same mood we will continue to work together as usual in the time remaining until the end of the season.
