Lando Norris finished seventh in Saturday’s Sao Paulo sprint and admitted after the race that the car’s handling left a lot to be desired, but he’s glad he was able to score at least a few points.
Lando Norris (7th): “There were no chances to fight with rivals at all – even in the first lap they were much faster than us. It wasn’t easy, but my main job was to get ahead of Kevin Magnussen and we accomplished it.
I am satisfied with this, although I have to admit that the car left a terrible impression. There was no clutch – maybe the high temperature of the asphalt and some other factors affected. We’ve earned a few points though, it’s better than nothing, so there’s reason to be happy.
I foresee that we will also have difficulties in Sunday’s race and I do not expect that we will be able to achieve more than today. Although the sprint was difficult, we still had a good run, as Daniel also gained a few positions back. If we manage to finish in the top ten tomorrow, then the day can be called a success.”
Daniel Riccardo (11th): “Today I really enjoyed the many duels on the track. Now I want to review the race record because I either regained some positions and then lost them, so I don’t even know how it all ended.
Sure, things could have been better, but I still climbed a few positions up, so we worked out fine. I suppose if you start from the middle of the pack, your situation can change constantly during the race. I still think we should add a few tenths, it would make it easier for us to fulfill the task of tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
Then I could fight more aggressively on track, but let’s see what we can do. Overall I am positive and as we have regained some positions we will start much closer to the top ten of the race.”
